Welcome to the Chateau des Barres

Situated in the small village of Vernoil-le-Fourrier in the heart of the Loire Valley near Saumur this magnificent 19th Century Chateau was built in the romantic architectural style of the Louis-Philippe period, externally the Chateau is built in the bright tuffeau stone found in the area decorated with ornate sculptures, carvings and magnificent luminous windows, 'oeil de boeuf' and 'fairy-tale' pointed turret tower making it the tallest building in the village after l'eglise.

The former servant housing has been lovingly restored to a standard somewhat more luxurious than that of it's earlier inhabitants would have been used to. The accommodation resides within the walled garden of the Chateau and makes a pleasant and secure environment for children to play.

These beautiful cottages are the latest addition to the Chateau des Barres holiday accomodation. Set in their own private grounds next to the Chateau. At the turn of the century the Cottages were where the local blacksmith lived and worked.
